I was born in '73 and was hooked immediately on Elton John and Billy Joel. I started at the piano when I was 6 because I either wanted to or I didn't have a choice. That was too far back for me to recall, but there was certainly a times where I completely lost interest.
When I was about 12 I bought an electric guitar, which kept me completely occupied to the point that it disrupted my social life. But at the same time, I started listening to more and more piano/keyboard oriented rock, whether it was from the Beatles, Steely Dan, or Van Halen. I thought at the time I was excelling until my I left for College and found myself surrounded with some real talent.
I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago with a BA in Jazz Piano. And in the same year that I received my degree, I left the country and went to Japan. I ended up staying for 9 years. Although I had a lot of opportunities through both television music stages, it was not at all comfortable at the time.
So when I returned, rather than look for work as a musician, I built a website from the programming experience I picked up in Japan, while bartering the skills to code for those of speaking English. The website I built and own is Music Forte. Now there is a full-time development team that handles all the difficult programming. But I still stay busy looking after it.
Irrespective of the fact that I've found myself completely swamped with that business, my dedication to the piano never left, and I found one day by suprise that I loved performing again.
So now I play and sing with every opportunity I'm lucky enough to find, and I hope there will be many more to come!
